Omeprazole is used in the treatment of reflux oesophagitis (discomfort caused when stomach contents are brought up continually after feeding) and stomach ulcers. During reflux
the stomach acid causes irritation of the food pipe. Omeprazole is a medicine also called a protein-pump inhibitor and is used to reduce the amount of acid made by the stomach. Taking omeprazole can be an important part of the treatment of reflux by helping to reduce the irritation. It is commonly used in children with little side effects and is available in a liquid suspension form in many flavours such as Tutti Fruitti.
